Our Vision

We share the vision of a world in which sensory impaired children and young people enjoy the same rights, opportunities, responsibilities, fulfilment and quality of life as their able-bodied peers.

Giving Romania’s vulnerable and disadvantaged
sensory impaired children a brighter future
Accessible Information and Equipment
The effect of sight or hearing loss or impairment varies widely from one person to another.  The need for consistent and organized communication and accessible information for sensory impaired children and young people is imperative in Romania right now.

Based on our studies and experience in Romania, we have found that communication between a deaf or hard of hearing person and someone who can hear can sometimes be difficult and frustrating.  In addition, most teachers cannot communicate with their deaf pupils.  Deaf adults are challenged by the lack of sign language training to public organizations (local administration, police, hospitals) or the public at large.

Another common problem is that sight impaired individuals find it very difficult to read or understand information if it’s presented in (what most consider) ordinary small print or without the right access technology.
We are committed to finding and implementing solutions that will improve access to information and for a better communication of the sensory impaired, especially children and young people.

Our impact and accomplishments include:

We established the Braille and Audio library.  This library includes 800 books in Braille (the largest English language Braille library in Romania) as well as 300 audio tapes of fiction and non-fiction literature;

Completed the transcription in big and giant print of 12 school textbooks and 20 Romanian classic literature authors;

We edited the first communication support textbook for deaf children;

Produced the video course about the Romanian sign language;

Edited leaflets about the sight and hearing impairment to parents and teachers;

Assisted 1200 deaf children to receive the well-deserved hearing aids;

We continue to provide constant donation of equipment, materials and adaptations to schools and individuals.  Examples of our donations include the following:

large print/ Braille school textbooks;

large print/tactile charts and maps;

writing frames and felt pens for low vision students;

low vision aids: spectacles, magnifiers, hand-held telescopes, illuminated magnifiers, binoculars, CCTV;

Perkins braillers and other Braille machines and Braille paper for blind students;

magnifying  and screen speech computer software (Supernova);

white boards or flipcharts;

desk lamps.
