Our Vision

We share the vision of a world in which sensory impaired children and young people enjoy the same rights, opportunities, responsibilities, fulfilment and quality of life as their able-bodied peers.

Summer School
The Dorna summer School (based in Dorna Candreni village, near Vatra Dornei) is a fantastic opportunity for sensory impaired children from around the country and their local peers to spend the summer learning through recreation.
Started three years ago, the Summer school activities have included workshops by clowns, drama, music, dance, sport and lots of art and craft. Games and field trips are organized for the children. Our staff and volunteers are encouraged to take leadership roles in organizing and implementing the school’s activities.
Our impact and accomplishments include:

Bucharest Summer school attended by 15 sensory impaired children and 5 volunteers in 2006;

Dorna Summer School attended by 15 sensory impaired children from Bucharest, Buzau, Timisoara and Cluj, 27 local children and 10 teachers in 2007;

Dorna Summer School attended by 24 sensory impaired children from Bucharest, Buzau, Timisoara and Cluj, 55 local children, 22 teachers and instructors in 2008.
Sometimes the best evidence supporting the success of a project are the words shared by those participating.  Here are a few of these stories shared by Summer Camp Volunteers:
“I joined the summer camp with the intention of putting a smile on a child’s face, what I did not know was that in the process I was going to have so much fun” – Ana Tudosie.
“FUN! That was the first thing that comes to my mind, when I think of the Dorna Summer School. However, when I sit back and think there was so much more to it. There was teaching, learning, communicating, socializing, and interacting, and a wonderful opportunity for our sensory impaired children to enjoy life together with other children. Everyone had something to give and all of us came back having learnt something new, be it a skill or perspective on life. I would do it again in the blink of an eye.” – Catalin Deleanu
“A year ago, when I started being a Light into Europe volunteer, this was my first interaction with any charity work. I realized that there is so much that I have been oblivious to!
“Dorna Summer School really opened my eyes to the realities that my family protective environment has prevented me to experience. Once at Dorna, I really enjoyed myself, I completely ignored my double impairment and the interaction with all the children and the teachers is really something that I will always cherish.” – Oana Uilacan
“Dorna Summer School was a very exhilarating experience. Seeing the kids having so much fun; be it them making masks, or puppets or dancing or playing football and singing; and teachers and volunteers enjoying themselves equally made those days memorable and all the time spent in planning the event worthwhile.” – Adela Sandu.
